Technology in Lockdown
Technology use has soared over lock down and Squeaky Mouse have been busy helping many people keep in contact with family and friends as they get to grip with Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Skype etc.
It has been a real pleasure to help everyone over the last few months and it has been refreshing to see how quickly people both old and new have quickly embraced the technology.
Squeaky Mouse have helped people by logging in to computers remotely and doing house visits where a remote connection has not been possible or the problem cannot be fixed remotely. Any site visits have been done in a COVID secure way to keep everyone safe.
There were a couple of visits that have stayed with me and brought a tear to my eye.
The first was a lady who had recently had a heart attack. She was recovering well, however she wanted to do two things. The first is to connect to the hospital Microsoft Teams meeting so she could do exercises with other patients. I quickly showed her how to do this. The second challenge was to get her in contact with her sister in America without expensive telephone calls. I suggested WhatsApp and worked with her Sisters Grandson in America to get the American end set up. There were genuine tears in her eyes when the lady in question saw her Sister for the first time in ten years. I left her happily chatting away to her sister and Grandson.
The second was a man whose wife had recently been admitted to hospital for cancer treatment. His only way to see his wife was through Zoom. Whilst he chatted to me about his love of railways and especially steam engines, I busily got Zoom working for him on his tablet. I then showed him how to connect to the zoom meeting the next day and said he should call me if there were any problems. Again there were tears in his eyes as he was overjoyed that he would be able to see and speak to his wife and support her whilst she was in hospital.
